Abstract

Smart Technologies: An Innovative Way to Educate Learn and Gather Data

Over the last few years, the introduction of smart technologies has made teaching much more efficient and engaging and student learning much more interactive. The use of technologies such as tablets, computers, smart phones, etc. have contributed to time savings and have made learning much more fun for students in the classroom. But that is not the only area where the use of smart technologies has had an impact. They have also help field professional gather and process data more quickly and more accurately than ever before. Development projects dealing with different thematic areas ranging from water, to food, to energy have benefited from such technologies.
So, what are the benefits of smart technologies? Research points out that the students’ learning experiences have been enhanced and became more interesting while making it easier for them to understand concepts and content. The interactive learning using smarty technologies contribute to more engagement between the teachers and their students. In addition, it has been demonstrated that students learn better when visuals are used in teaching. A recent Gallup survey showed that the students’ engagement rate improved by 55% when smart technologies are introduced in teaching. Such technologies offer ease of access to the internet where students and teachers can find all kinds of information and can share knowledge instantly.
For it to be successful, smart education must consider three factors: the smart technologies used in the learning process, the complexity of the organization where these technologies are used, and the students’ expected educational outcomes. These factors determine the impact of smart education on teaching and learning. Because smart technologies involve visuals, it has been advocated that students learn better when the learning experience incorporate smart technologies.
The use of visuals in teaching has been demonstrated to help students learn and retain information much better than traditional ways of teaching. Some research has shown that smart technologies using visual learning have increase students’ higher-order thinking skills.
Ultimately, the substantial changes in teaching methods and the increase in the adoption of smart technologies has led to an increase in students’ satisfaction with their curriculum and resulted in an increase in knowledge assimilation.
