Abstract:

Recently, defected ground structures (DGS) and electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structures have received increased attention because of their use in mobile communication systems. Such systems often require circuits to be as small as possible. The DGS components are the dominant technology which can provide size reduction and has capability of suppressing harmonics. The DGS can be applied to various kinds of components such as lowpass filters and bandpass filters as well as RF phase shifters and planar antennas. The classic microwave RF components based on microstrip technique are implemented either by all shunt stubs or by series connected high-low stepped-impedance microstrip line sections. However, these designs suffer from some disadvantages such as the fabrication difficulties associated with the high impedance lines, the appearance of spurious bands, low rejection levels and narrow rejection bands. In order to overcome these disadvantages,
several methods and techniques are used to improved performance over the conventional ones.
In this tutorial we will present research several methods and techniques in order to overcome these disadvantages and to improve the features of the compact planar antennas or microstrip filters, which are often used as strong candidate in various mobile communication systems like radar military microwave radio, wireless and satellite communications, and test and measurement instrumentation.

Biography:

Dr. Eng. Ahmed Boutejdar was born in Souk El-Arbaa du Gharb, Morocco. He received the Bachelor of Science B.Sc in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Physics from both universities Technische Hochschule Köthen and from Ibn Tofeil University, Kénitra, Morocco between 1991 and 1995. From 1992 to 1993 Preparatory Year of german language and Preparatory Year of Engineering high School in köthen, Germany. B.Sc. and Diplom-Eng degrees (with highest honors) in Electrical Engineering, Communication, and Microwave Engineering from Otto-von-Guericke university, Magdeburg, Germany in 2002 and 2004 respectively, and the Ph.D. degree (with highest honors) in electrical engineering from the Otto-von-Guericke university, Magdeburg, Germany in 2010. He worked with several DFG-filters and antennas-projects. He is currently working in cooperation with the German Research Foundation (DFG) on a new research DFG-project entitled “Capacitive and resistive microelectromechanical switch with bridge structures made of spring steel, in particular for HF applications”. His research interests include microwave and DGS-filter measurements, design and fabrication of UWB patch antennas, compact filtenna using DMS and MEMS-technology, design electromagnetic modeling (EM) and simulation.
Dr. Boutejdar has authored over 190 papers in international journals and proceedings of international and national symposia and a book chapter in “Ultra-Wideband, Short Pulse Electromagnetics 9″ Springer 2010”, and these papers have been cited by other researchers more than 1190 times(Scopus: h index 17) and 1593 times (Google Scholar: h-index 20). Some papers are citet as references in three famous filter books: “Mirostrip and Printed Antennas: New Trends, Techniques an Applications (2011)”, “Microstrip Filters for RF/ Microwave Applications, 2nd Edition (2011)”, “Issues in Optics, Light, Laser, Infrared, and Photonic Technology: 2011 Edition” and “Handbook of Research on Recent Developments in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering 2019”.
